Tampa City Council Recognition
ADA Awareness Month and Because of Sam on Tampa City Council Agenda
I hope this finds you well and that you’re enjoying your summer!
As you may know the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990.
Although the important work to promote equal opportunity for people with disabilities takes place all year, the signing of the federal act is annually commemorated each summer with special events and messaging.
Sam and I will appear before Tampa’s City Council next week (thanks to City Councilman Luis Viera) to do just that—and to raise awareness of the powerful Because of Sam messages.
Two years ago this month we held the “first look” screening of Because of Sam at Tampa Theatre and got a standing ovation from a sold-out crowd; then won Tampa’s Downtown Partnership Urban Excellence People’s Choice Award, and in March 2021 the film aired on PBS WEDU — AND now we have a Because of Sam Educational Program that transforms organizations by educating employees about empathy, inclusion, and the capabilities of people with disabilities.
Unfortunately, we lost a year of momentum due to the pandemic but we appreciate all of the community support, media attention, and sponsors who have helped us get this far.
We have much more to do…
If you’d like to buy the Program and/or book an in-person screening, check out all of the options at:
