Down Syndrome Awareness Month
Holidays and special occasions draw attention to things that matter, and it is important to give a shout out to Down Syndrome Awareness Month, which is October.
It is vital that we keep the ABILITIES and STRENGTHS of people with Down syndrome at the forefront of our minds ALL YEAR long. Please share the resources below with families and friends to help them along their journey.
I wrote an article for the Disability Resource Hub Special Needs Family Resource. See page 6 and the two-page spread in the back inside cover: Click here to see the article.
The article tells the Because of Sam back story. Sam’s courage to run for Homecoming King is what caught my eye in 2009. His life is an example of how his family, community, and church supported him and the role that intervention services played in his life.
The print version of the publication can be found in Tampa Bay area schools, at the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County and other nonprofit organizations.
